Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati said in an interview with the Financial Times that Ankara is waiting for “good news” from Moscow on discounts on Russian gas and payment deferrals.
In an interview with the publication, the minister noted that Turkey is currently “actively pushing” for a discount on a large amount of Russian gas. Ankara also asks Gazprom to consider the possibility of deferring payments.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Turkey asked Russia to partially defer gas payments until 2024, citing the need to mitigate the impact of damage from higher energy prices.
In early August, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that Turkey would begin paying for Russian gas supplies in rubles. The country annually imports 26 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia.
