The Turkish Migration Department has denied media reports that the country’s authorities have banned the issuance of residence permits (permits) to all foreigners in all 39 districts of Istanbul, with the exception of a number of cases.
The day before, July 15, about the restrictions imposed reported Turkish edition of Milliyet. In fact, the ban on issuing a residence permit for foreigners does not apply to the whole of Istanbul, but only to 10 districts. We are talking about the districts of Avcilar, Bahcelievler, Basaksehir, Bagcilar, Esenler, Kyuchukchekmece, Sultangazi, Zeytinburnu, and the districts of Fatih and Esenyurt have been closed since 2021, explained “RIA Novosti” in the department of migration.
The Milliyet material says that the share of foreigners among the city’s residents is about 8%. According to the official data of the Istanbul Migration Department, which the publication refers to, Syrians are the leaders among foreigners in Istanbul, there are more than 535 thousand of them. The total population of the city is 15.9 million people.
Almost 16,000 illegal migrants were detained in Turkey in June, of which almost 7,000 were deported, informed July 7, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. According to the minister, 23,450 illegal migrants were prevented from entering Turkey in a month. Yerlikaya promised not to stop fighting this phenomenon.
