Turkey demands an international investigation after the shelling of the vessel by Greek boats, RIA Novosti reports citing a diplomatic source.
Reportedly, the shelling took place on September 10 in international waters near the island of Bozcaada near the Dardanelles. According to the Turkish side, at 13.27 (the time coincides with Moscow time), a Greek ship fired on a ship sailing under the flag of the Comoros. The statement says that the Greeks were “pursuing fire”, and after arriving at the scene of shelling, Turkish boats left the area.
The source noted that the Turkish side tried to protest immediately. Ankara emphasizes the seriousness of the incident and demands an immediate explanation and investigation, the report said.
This is not the first conflict between NATO allies Turkey and Greece. Relations escalated once again on August 23, when the Greek air defense used the S-300 air defense system to target Turkish F-16s. The incident reportedly occurred during NATO maneuvers, and the Turkish version of events was denied in Athens.
