Turkey decided to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States and began negotiations with Washington. The newspaper reports Dunya citing own sources.
The publication notes that although Ankara is not threatened with the termination of Russian gas supplies, the country’s authorities take into account the experience of last year, when excessive consumption of this fuel was observed. In this regard, Turkey decided to negotiate with the United States on the supply of LNG.
In August, it was reported that Moscow and Ankara had reached an agreement that Turkey would pay for Russian gas supplies in rubles.
At the same time, the parties were negotiating that part of the transit of Russian gas through Turkey would be paid in lira. In 2021, Russia supplied Turkey with 26 billion cubic meters of gas.
