Tula skiers opened the season in Vedenino

In the arms capital of Russia on Sunday, December 17th, skiing enthusiasts opened a new season.

Regional cross-country skiing competitions “Opening of the 2024 ski season” were held at the Vedenino roller ski center located on Kosaya Gora.

Tula authorities called ski competitions an integral part of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life” within the framework of the priority national project “Demography”.

The head of the Tula Ministry of Sports, Dmitry Yakovlev, considers the event a real holiday for fans of physical culture, sports and an active lifestyle.

“More than four hundred athletes from different regions of the country are taking part in the race,” emphasized the head of the regional sports department, who wished the skiers to achieve victories, have a good day off and make new friends.

Athletes competed at four distances. Skiers had to cover one, two and a half, five and ten kilometers in free style.

According to the good Tula tradition, there was a field kitchen for athletes and fans, where they could warm up and refresh themselves with hot porridge and tea.

The press service of the Government of the Tula Region recalled that the Vedenino roller ski center was created and inaugurated four years ago. The corresponding order for a special facility for the development of skiing and roller skating was given by the head of the region, Alexey Dyumin, having received requests from Kosogorsk residents.

The sports base is named after the most famous Tula skier, two-time champion of the Winter Olympic Games in Sapporo, Japan, Honorary Citizen of the Tula Region Vyacheslav Vedenin, who passed away two years ago at the age of eighty.

No budgetary funds were required for the construction of this base; the facility was financed by socially responsible partners of the regional authorities.

As noted in the government press service, the track for skiers and rollerbladers is six meters wide and two and a half kilometers long. There are areas for racing starts and finishes. The track is fully lit. It has its own system for creating artificial snow. For the convenience and comfort of spectators and athletes, there is a stand with two hundred seats, which can be quickly installed if necessary. Special equipment and a snowcat help prepare the ski tracks.

In January of this year, the championship and championship of the Tula region in cross-country skiing were held in Vedenino, in which about two hundred and fifty athletes took part.

“MK in Tula” wrote: the day before in the city started traditional Greco-Roman wrestling tournament for the prizes of the Olympic champion, world and European champion in the first welterweight, a native of the city of Uzlovaya, Honored Master of Sports and Honored Trainer of the USSR Shamil Khisamutdinov.

At the Tula Arena multifunctional sports complex, over two hundred wrestlers representing twenty federal subjects competed for awards.
