Football club “Arsenal”, playing in the First League of Russia on football, decided to terminate the contract with the head coach Oleg Kononov at the mutual request of the parties, said TASS club president Guram Adzhoev.
“We have decided to part ways with Oleg Kononov. He leaves the Tula Arsenal. It is a mutual decision and desire. We part by shaking hands. We will announce the name of the new head coach in the coming days,” said Mr. Adzhoev. He specified that at the training camp in Turkey, starting on January 14, the team will be led by a new coach.
Oleg Kononov has been the head coach at Arsenal Tula since July 2022. He previously coached the club at the start of the 2018/19 season. This season the team is in the sixth place after 20 rounds with 32 points. Arsenal are two points short of fourth place, which will allow them to compete for promotion to the Premier League in the play-offs.
In Russia, the 56-year-old specialist, in addition to Arsenal, coached Krasnodar, Grozny Akhmat and Moscow Spartak. With Krasnodar, Oleg Kononov managed to take third place in the Russian Premier League in the 2014/15 season.
