Trutnev proposed to revive universal military training in Russia – Kommersant

Deputy Prime Minister and presidential plenipotentiary in the Far East Yuri Trutnev announced the need to revive universal military training in Russia and strengthen domestic patriotic and spiritual traditions. In his opinion, over the past three decades, many problems have been allowed in this work.

During his speech at a meeting on the security of the Far East in Magadan, Yuri Trutnev noted that in the “conditions of exposed international contradictions” the issue of strengthening spiritual and moral values, culture and historical memory in Russia has become important.

“The countries of the North Atlantic Alliance are trying to break the Russian economy, its culture, traditions, to impose their own models of behavior. And the level of educational, patriotic work during this period, in fact, determines the future of our country, and in general the whole world, ”said Mr. Trutnev (quoted from TASS).

According to Mr. Trutnev, for a long time the basic concepts were washed out of the Russian youth. “Many, unfortunately, have ceased to understand that one can be really strong and happy only in one’s own homeland,” he added.

In parallel with this, according to Yuri Trutnev, there was a “degradation of the military training system”, in particular, initial military training in schools was eliminated. Currently, only 1.4% of students in higher educational institutions are engaged in initial military training. According to the president’s representative, the number of specialists graduating from the Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation and Navy of Russia has decreased by 80 times.

“At present, when Russia is under powerful sanctions pressure, when dozens of our cities are under shelling, the revival of universal military training, the patriotic, spiritual traditions of our people is necessary for victory today and for the future of Russia tomorrow,” he concluded.

At the end of 2022 in Russia was approved new school curriculum with military training lessons. According to the document, from September 1 of this year, as part of the OBZH program, students in grades 10-11 will learn how to handle a Kalashnikov assault rifle and provide first aid, as well as learn the principles of operation of the F-1 and RGD-5 grenades. From September 1, a module on the basics of military training in Russian universities may appear. students will learn to disassemble and assemble AK-74 and RPK-74 assault rifles and machine guns, a Makarov pistol, and will also be trained for the combat use of hand grenades.
