Truss promised the British tax cuts and a way out of the energy crisis

“I have a bold plan to boost the economy through tax cuts and reforms. I will cut taxes to reward hard work and encourage business growth and investment. I will reform as part of my mission to keep the UK working, building and growing,” she said.

Truss also vowed to introduce measures this week that would “pay the electricity bills” and ensure the country’s continued energy security. Another priority of the new government will be increasing the availability of healthcare, she added.

Truss also praised the work of her predecessor, Boris Johnson, pointing to the implementation of Brexit under him, providing the population with vaccines against Covid-19 and confronting “Russian aggression”.

Truss, who previously held the post of Foreign Minister of the country, won the fight for the post of prime minister of the kingdom and leader of the ruling Conservative Party in an internal party vote that ended on September 2. Truss received 81,326 rank-and-file votes, while her rival, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, received 60,399 votes.

The election of a new head of the party took place after Johnson announced on July 7 that he had decided to resign. This was preceded by a series of scandals over parties at his residence during the quarantine and the subsequent decline in the party’s rating.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that after Truss was appointed prime minister of the kingdom, relations between Moscow and London, given her statements, are unlikely to change for the better.
