Trump reacts to reports of new allegations against him

Former US President Donald Trump spoke about the attack on his lawyers after reports that the US Department of Justice had filed charges against him. He wrote about this on his social network Truth Social.

“These vicious communists, marxists, fascists and radical left democrats attacked my lawyers on a level never seen before and I still continue to win,” he wrote (cit. according to RIA Novosti).

On the evening of July 18, Trump announced that he had received a letter from U.S. Attorney Jack Smith related to an investigation into attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Trump’s advisers and Smith’s representative did not comment on the content of the letter, wrote Washington Post newspaper. By information NBC News, this letter mentions three federal laws related to forfeiture, conspiracy to defraud the US, and influencing witness testimony.

On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters gathered for a demonstration in his support in Washington. They stormed the building of the US Congress and interrupted the meeting, at which the results of the elections held in the country were to be approved. Five people were killed in clashes with police. After the Capitol was stormed, Congressional Democrats accused Trump of sedition and demanded his impeachment. Trump himself condemned the incident. On July 9, Trump was charged with 37 counts in the case of illegal possession of classified documents. Trump’s files on some of the most sensitive U.S. military data, including information about the nuclear program, were reported by the media, citing Justice Department releases. As part of these charges, Trump faces a maximum sentence of 400 years in prison and a $9 million fine, according to the New York Post.
