Former President Donald Trump called on the FBI to return documents seized during a search of his Mar-a-Lago estate. The politician wrote about this on his social network Truth Social.
According to Trump, among the papers there are materials subject to attorney-client privilege, as well as documents protected by executive privilege (which gives the president the right not to disclose certain information).
“I earnestly request that these documents be returned immediately to where they were taken. Thanks!” — wrote the former President of the United States (quote by the New York Post).
The Trump residence was searched on August 8. The former president noted its inappropriateness and complained that FBI agents broke into his safe. According to US media, the search was related to documents that Trump took with him after leaving the White House.
The politician also linked the FBI visit to an attempt to prevent him from running. Democrats “desperately don’t want to see him running for president in 2024,” he said.
The Washington Post later reported that the documents that the FBI was looking for at his estate contained classified material related to nuclear weapons. At the same time, the interlocutors of the publication did not say which state the nuclear weapons belong to, what kind of information the agents were looking for and whether they found it as a result. The Wall Street Journal, citing the inventory, reported the seizure of 11 sets of classified documents, including those marked “top secret.”
