The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation announced that the icon “Trinity” by Andrei Rublev will be in the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior until July 19. The ministry said in a statement that the decision to extend the stay of the icon in the temple is connected with the requests of the Russian Orthodox Church to give believers the opportunity to bow to the icon on the feast of St. Sergius of Radonezh, which will take place on July 18.
“The icon is in a stable condition,” the Ministry of Culture claims. “There were no sharp fluctuations in temperature and humidity in the church.”
The decision to transfer the icon from the Tretyakov Gallery to the Russian Orthodox Church became known in mid-May. Then it was announced that she would stay in the HHS only until July 4, and then go for the restoration necessary after last year’s stay in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. At the same time, on the eve of the transfer of the icon to the temple, Patriarch Kirill declaredthat they would leave her there for a year, and then they would take her to the Lavra near Moscow.
