“Trinity” from the Cathedral of Christ the Savior will be sent for restoration, it may take up to a year – Kommersant

The icon “Holy Trinity” by Andrei Rublev, which is located in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, will be sent for restoration, said the head of the Ministry of Culture, Olga Lyubimova. The restoration will be carried out by the All-Russian Artistic Research and Restoration Center named after academician I. E. Grabar, it can take up to a year.

Ms. Lyubimova, in an interview with Izvestia, said that a scientific council would be assembled. It is also planned to make a new capsule for the icon, which will be “even more serious, even safer for this image.” After restoration, “Trinity” will be sent to the museum at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad.

“Trinity remains in the state collection. The church agrees with this. This is not a transfer from the federal property of the state catalog of the Russian Federation of museum valuables for use. This is a responsible use within the museum community, where both the Ministry of Culture and the leadership of the Lavra Museum will be responsible for the preservation of the image,” the minister assures.

On May 15, the Russian Orthodox Church announced that Vladimir Putin had decided to return the Trinity icon to her. May 16 Patriarch Kirill asked the presidential administration to agree on the transfer of the icon to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for the celebration of the Trinity on June 4. Director of the Pushkin Museum Elizaveta Likhacheva spokethat the transfer of the “Trinity” from the Tretyakov Gallery carries risks for the icon. Commission of Experts applied to the Ministry of Culture with a request to prevent the destruction of the Trinity. June 4 Patriarch saidthat the “Trinity” will stay in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior “for a certain time.”
