The Trinity icon by Andrei Rublev was brought to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior during the Christmas celebration. This is reported on website Russian Orthodox Church.

The message clarifies that the Image of the Holy Trinity was delivered from the All-Russian Art Scientific and Restoration Center named after Academician I.E. Grabar, where he was under the supervision of scientists in a special climate-controlled room. It is specified that the shrine was accompanied by the director of the Grabar Center Sergeev, the chief curator of the State Tretyakov Gallery Gorodkov and the cleric of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior Archpriest Georgy Martynov.

The image was installed in a special icon case near the right choir of the temple. After the transfer of the icon, Metropolitan Gregory of the Resurrection, manager of the affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate, served a prayer service.

In May 2023, Vladimir Putin spoke in favor of returning the masterpiece of icon painting to the Russian Orthodox Church. The icon was brought to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for the holiday of Trinity. Then it was sent for restoration to the Grabar Center. Later, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova signed an agreement to transfer the “Trinity” to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra for free use for 49 years.

The icon “Holy Trinity” (“Hospitality of Abraham”) was painted by Andrei Rublev in the 15th century especially for the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. There it remained until the 20s of the last century. In 1929, the shrine was transferred to the State Tretyakov Gallery.
