Triathlon in honor of the tercentenary will be held in Yekaterinburg

The capital of the Urals will host the sports festival IRONSTAR Ekaterinburg

As part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary, the strongest triathletes from all over the country will come to the capital of the Urals. Yekaterinburg will host a new format of a sporting event – the triathlon festival. Its participants will have to swim, bike and run.

On July 21 and 22, in honor of the tercentenary of the capital of the Urals, the sports festival IRONSTAR Ekaterinburg will be held. This is a triathlon competition in which participants need to overcome the distance by swimming, running and cycling.

“We are preparing for IRONSTAR 2023 in Yekaterinburg, which will take place on July 21-22. Once again, we took water from the city pond for analysis to finally make sure it was safe for the participants,” said Ivan Alypov, Olympic medalist and now deputy director of physical culture and sports of the administration of Yekaterinburg.

The water in the city pond turned out to be suitable for competitions. The water part of the route will start at the Dynamo stadium. Then the athletes will swim to the Makarovsky bridge and back to the sports facility.

The running route will run along the embankment of the city pond. The cycling will start at the Cosmos KKT, the athletes will go along Tolmacheva Street, then along Lenina, Tatishcheva, through the VIZ microdistrict, almost to the village of Palkinsky peat bog and back.

Participants are offered a choice of three distances: “Half-Iron” (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling, 21.1 km running), “Olympic” (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling, 10 km running) and “Sprint” (750 m swimming, 20 km cycling, 5.2 km running).

For those who do not dare to go to the start of triathlon distances, it is proposed to participate in one of them. For example, there will be separate 1 and 2 mile swims, a women’s race and a children’s race.

One of the participants in the upcoming competitions, Sergei Shelapugin, has already completed the triathlon distance. And several times. On July 9, in honor of the 300th anniversary of Yekaterinburg, he covered 300 kilometers: 8 kilometers by swimming, 42 kilometers by running, 250 kilometers by bicycle.

“300 years of my beloved city is an excellent reason to challenge yourself, test your physical, and most importantly, psychological readiness, to do such a volume at a time that I have not had to do yet,” Sergey Shelapugin said.
