In many regions of the Russian Federation, tourism infrastructure is poorly developed. This opinion was expressed by the vice-president of the Alliance of Travel Agencies of the Russian Federation, Aleksan Mkrtchan, commenting on the tourism niche in the country on the radio “TVNZ”.

The expert noted that the cultural capital of Russia, St. Petersburg, is gaining more and more popularity. The number of hotels booked in the European city of Kaliningrad is also going through the roof. Despite this, the analyst states, there are currently no direct flights to Europe.

In addition, according to Mkrtchan, there are not enough hotels with 4 and 5 star ratings in the country. In Russia, according to the expert, the largest number of rooms is in Kazan, Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg and Moscow, while in Altai or Baikal tourists face a shortage of hotels.

“…In fact, in the whole of Altai there are only two five-star hotels. To the huge Altai. There are also three eternal hotels on Baikal, a catastrophic shortage…”, said a tourism expert.

In conclusion, he added that Russians willingly spend their holidays in Sochi due to the fact that there are a large number of comfortable places to live there – in Krasnaya Polyana, in Sochi itself and in Adler.
