Transparency International – R announced the liquidation of a legal entity

Transparency International – R (recognized as a foreign agent) – the Russian division of Transparency International (recognized as an undesirable organization) – announced a decision to liquidate the legal entity of the organization. The decision was made by the council of the NGO.

In a press release, the organization says that the recognition of Transparency International, which is engaged in combating corruption, as well as the practice of applying legislation to such organizations in Russia, make the work of the Russian division “practically impossible.” At the same time, Transparency stressed that it is an autonomous NPO.

“This decision was made because we, the founders and leaders of TI-Russia, believe that the people who work with us and who believe in our mission – combating corruption, promoting transparency, accountability and decency – are more important than words, names and other legal circumstances imposed on us, ”the message says.

In a statement, the organization notes that the team will face a “major restructuring of work.” It plans to continue its anti-corruption activities.

At the same time, the founder of Transparency International – R, Elena Panfilova, in a comment to Kommersant, found it difficult to answer whether the NPO would continue its activities in the Russian Federation by registering a new legal entity. “This is not a question of today,” she said.

Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation acknowledged Transparency International undesirable organization March 6. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Transparency International, “formally acting as an organization fighting corruption around the world”, “interferes in the internal affairs” of Russia, posing a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and the security of the country.

Transparency International was founded in 1993, and the Russian division in 1999. The purpose of the organization is to fight corruption and study its level in countries around the world. The Russian NPO, in particular, was engaged in the provision of legal assistance in cases of corruption and the formation of anti-corruption legal awareness. The organization was recognized as a foreign agent in 2015.
