Transgender people banned from playing in women's chess tournaments

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has restricted the participation of transgender chess players in tournaments, according to the organization’s website.

A temporary ban has been introduced for those who have changed their gender from male to female – such players cannot compete in women’s competitions from August 21. At the same time, all their titles remain in force, specified in the decision.

If the player changes gender from female to male, then in this case the titles are not saved. But they, as again specified, can be returned with a reverse sex change.

And one more point – the rating and the sanctions received by the transgender chess player “remain unchanged for any change of sex.”
