Tragedy “Nord-Ost”: 20 years later
[ad_1]
October 23, 2002 is a tragic date in the history of Moscow and all of Russia. 20 years ago, 916 spectators, actors and employees of the theater center “On Dubrovka”, which hosted the musical “Nord-Ost”, became hostages of terrorists.
The chronicle of those terrible three days – from the moment of capture to the moment of the release of the hostages of the theater center “On Dubrovka” – was published by the media from all over the world, including Moskovskaya Pravda.
It so happened that the employees of our newspaper were among the hostages. Fortunately, they survived, but even 20 years after the incident, they cannot and do not want to talk about this topic.
…Today, one of the largest hostage-taking cases in the world is reminded by the memorial to the victims of Nord-Ost – a granite stone with the inscription “In memory of the victims of terrorism” and a seven-meter stele with three bronze cranes on top, erected near the theater center, and a memorial plaque on one of its walls, on which the names of 130 dead hostages are carved.
Human memory, according to psychologists, is such that over time it “erases” negative memories. And it is right. But you need to know and remember the history of your city, your country. The tragedy of Nord-Ost is part of this story. We remember.
