Traffic police: there will be no fines for driving on sticky tires at any time of the year

Russian drivers have the right to drive cars with sticky tires all year round, the legislation does not provide for fines for this. On Tuesday, September 5, said the head of the main department for ensuring road safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Mikhail Chernikov.
The head of the traffic police specified that “sticky rubber can be used at any time,” the employees of the State traffic inspectorate “have no questions about it” and “its use is not a condition under which movement is prohibited.”
At the same time, Chernikov warned that when using sticky rubber in summer, it wears out more and faster than in winter, so the use of such rubber is more effective in the winter season.
In Russia, from September 1, new fines for drivers began to operate. During summer (June to August) it is forbidden to use studded winter tires, and in winter (from December to February) – summer. The ban on the use of summer tires in winter applies only to cars and trucks (up to 3.5 tons). At the same time, the approach to limit the use of out-of-season tires is the same throughout the country.
Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade assured that the growth of the ruble exchange rate and the rise in the price of natural rubber would not have a significant impact on the cost of tires for passenger cars. The agency explained that the share of natural rubber from Asian countries in the production of passenger tires is about 5%. Accordingly, if the cost of this raw material rises by a third, the tire will rise in price only by 1.5%.
