Trade unions opposed demonstrations on May 1 due to terrorist threat

The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR) recommends not to hold rallies and marches dedicated to May 1 this year. About it TASS FNPR deputy chairman Alexander Shershukov said. He justified this by an increased level of terrorist danger, saying that there would be no May Day marches and rallies in Moscow.
“Due to the fact that now the level of terrorist danger is higher, even in those regions that are far from places (holding.— “b”) special military operation. So is what needs to be done in some other forms, at least this May Day, from our point of view,” said Mr. Shershukov.
There will be no marches and rallies in Moscow, but a solemn meeting is planned, he also said. The trade union leadership, activists, as well as invited representatives of social partners will take part in it, the deputy chairman of the FNPR said.
In modern Russia, May 1 is celebrated as the Holiday of Spring and Labor.
On February 15, 2023, the FNPR decided to prepare and hold the May Day action of trade unions in 2023. Then the executive committee of the FNPR decided carry out the action.
Representatives of the FNPR in the federal districts were instructed to report on the preparation and forms of the May Day action of trade unions in the federal district by April 20, and on participation in the action until 13:00 Moscow time on May 1 by 13:00 Moscow time.
