Torpedo lost in the final match of the regular season

Hockey players of the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo have completed their program of matches of the KHL regular championship for the 2023-2024 season. The team from Nizhny Novgorod spent the first part of the season at a good level and for some time claimed leadership in the Western Conference, but injuries to the leaders and fatigue made themselves felt. Based on the results of 68 matches played in the KHL regular season, Torpedo hockey players settled in 7th position in the Western Conference, gaining 75 points. In the fight for the playoffs, Igor Larionov’s team was ahead of representatives of the Moscow region, Sochi, Beijing and Minsk.
In the final match of the regular season, the Avtozavodtsy hosted Lada from Tolyatti, which had competed in the VHL the previous year. The guests from the Samara region reached the playoffs and hoped to improve their position with a victory. For most of the match, the Torpedo hockey players were in the lead and had an excellent chance to break the streak of five defeats in a row, but the failure at the end of the third period made itself felt. “Lada” scored two goals and sent the match into overtime, where they once again upset the Nizhny Novgorod goalkeeper. Thus, Lada won with a score of 5:4 in extra time.
The regular season is over for Torpedo. In the first round of the Gagarin Cup playoffs, Igor Larionov’s team will play against St. Petersburg SKA.
