“Torpedo” is not a hindrance to the leader – Newspaper Kommersant No. 152 (7353) of 08/22/2022

In the sixth round of the championship of Russia there was a change of leader. Zenit beat Torpedo 2-0 and took first place with 14 points, one point ahead of Spartak. In addition, CSKA caught up with the red-and-whites, who defeated Akhmat – 4: 2. But they are superior to the army team on the best goal difference.
Despite the fact that Spartak held the first place after the defeat from Dynamo, it was obvious that this was not for long. And if Rostov, which managed not to score two penalties in the match with Sochi, including before the final whistle with a score of 2: 2, failed to throw off the red-and-whites from the throne on the same day, then from the same Zenit They didn’t have to wait for gifts. Moreover, the Petersburgers hosted Torpedo, which was stuck at the bottom of the standings.
Black and white, having failed the opening segment of the championship, just before leaving for St. Petersburg, radically updated their leading vertical. As a result, Ilya Gerkus, known for his work at Lokomotiv, became the new president of the club, with whom he won the championship title and the Cup of Russia, but after the resignation of Alexander Borodyuk, the team was entrusted to Nikolai Kovardaev from Torpedo-2, who had never coached at the level of prime minister -league. Actually, he doesn’t even have the appropriate Pro license, so Nikolai Savichev, head of the club’s youth football development program, formally took the post of head coach of Torpedo.
Another thing is that, no matter what the coach or the president, the players enter the field, and the current composition of the black-and-whites has already been criticized by everyone and sundry. Not being able to strengthen it, Kovardaev simply rearranged some positions. Well, he chose a simple tactic for the match – defense with a low block with attempts to counterattack at the expense of nimble David Karaev and Khozhimat Erkinov. Naturally, the game took place on the torpedo territory, and often right in the penalty area of the guests. Zenit methodically searched for gaps in the dense ranks of the opponent, hoping that the team, which had conceded 12 goals in previous meetings, would fall apart quickly enough.
But Torpedo did not fall apart and ended the first half in a draw – 0:0. And the Petersburgers did not have any terribly scoring chances. Is that Mateo Cassierra a couple of times was in promising situations for scoring. However, the Colombian is still adapting to the new club and is experiencing some difficulties. Even the Brazilians could not invent anything, so one of them – the author of the winning goal in the match with CSKA Gustavo Mantua – Zenit mentor Sergey Semak changed for Zelimkhan Bakaev during the break.
In the second half, the hosts increased the pressure and practically did not let Torpedo out of the center line. The ball darted around Yegor Baburin’s penalty area, but with the help of defenders and a true friend of any goalkeeper – the bar – he repelled all threats. Muscovites showed enviable endurance and patience, strictly observing game discipline. And when it seemed that they were close to an honorable draw, Ivan Sergeev, who replaced Cassierra, upset his former team by closing the Wendel cross. And soon Malcolm finished off the black-and-whites, who after this match fell to last place. Zenit, of course, beat the outsider modestly – only 2-0, but more importantly, they seized the sole leadership in the Premier League, which Spartak encroached on.
CSKA also had a chance to beat the red-and-whites, although, unlike Zenit, it faced a more difficult task. To do this, it was necessary to win big against Akhmat, which was only two points behind the army team and did not look like a punching bag at all. Grozny, by the way, in the current championship has already drawn with Spartak and Zenit, albeit at home and despite the fact that the opponents were in the minority quite early. However, the red and blue rolled out Sochi, which, in turn, inflicted the only defeat on Akhmat in five rounds. When Jorge Carrascal and Jesús Medina are on the move, CSKA can be very aggressive.
The Colombian and the Paraguayan again did the whole game in the team of Vladimir Fedotov, generating creativity and moving the ball.
Fedor Chalov, who also has a very good “chemistry” with his friend Konstantin Kuchaev, looks organically now in this South American company. True, he felt muscle discomfort during the warm-up and gave way to Ivan Oblyakov in the starting lineup. It was Chalov who put the first ball into the Akhmat goal after Medina’s serve from the corner flag. Yes, there was a rebound, but there is no doubt that the attacking army team scored his best form lately, scoring his fourth goal in the championship.
And then CSKA drew a completely unique combination. Two central defenders – Igor Diveev and Kirill Nababkin – lingered at someone else’s penalty area, Igor Akinfeev noticed this and loaded the ball in their direction from his half of the field. Diveev won the air, followed by a discount on Nababkin, and the veteran from the summer hit the gate. The goal turned out to be a feast for the eyes. Moreover, “Akhmat” swam and immediately got after Carrascal.
The red-blues took the lead – 3:0 – and thus bypassed Spartak, but even before the break, Mohamed Konate spoiled the difference for them. In the second half, Bernard Berisha generally reduced the score to a minimum, and Grozny could well win back. And yet the hosts did not miss the victory. Medina’s goal from Moises’s pass actually guaranteed them three points, but they have not regained the three-goal lead. In the end, Bruno Fuchs was a little unlucky, who hit the crossbar. As a result, CSKA caught up, but did not overtake Spartak. The ratio of goals scored and conceded by the army team is “plus nine”, while the red-whites have “plus ten”. So Fedotov’s wards are in third place.
