President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky 8 July informed on the return to the country from Turkey of Azov fighters (recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation and banned): commander Denis Prokopenko, deputy commander Svyatoslav Palamar, acting. Commander of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade Sergei Volynsky, Major of the National Guard Oleg Khomenko and Colonel of the National Guard Denis Shlega. They were transferred to Turkey from Russian captivity in an exchange with Ukraine in September 2022. Mr. Zelensky said that the five leaders of Azov would have to remain in Turkey until the end of hostilities. In the Kremlin accused Turkey and Ukraine in violation of the agreement.
The regions bordering Ukraine were subjected to rocket attacks on July 9. On approaching the Crimean bridge, air defense forces shot down a cruise missile. The authorities did not give details, but for about an hour it was closed traffic on the Crimean bridge. Two missiles were shot down over the Bryansk region (the sawmill was destroyed by debris). Another rocket shot down over the Rostov region – the roofs of two buildings were damaged.
Ukrainian authorities officially recognized involvement in the blowing up of the Crimean bridge on October 8, 2022. On the 500th day since the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar published on July 8 a list of what has been done on certain days since that moment: “273 days since the first strike was made on the Crimean bridge to disrupt Russian logistics.”
The authorities of the Central African Republic commented on the message of the Reuters agency about the withdrawal of Wagner PMC fighters from the country. Press Secretary of the CAR President Albert Yaloke Mokpem named what happened “not with a final departure, but with a rotation”: “Some will leave, others will come.”
President Joe Biden July 8 declaredthat the United States has eliminated all stockpiles of chemical weapons. He again accused Russia and Syria of “undeclared programs” on chemical weapons. Moscow and Damascus have repeatedly denied such accusations.
July 9 in Uzbekistan ended voting in presidential elections. Due to the high activity of voters, by 11:00 (09:00 Moscow time) the elections were declared valid – the turnout exceeded the 33% required by law. Turnout was over 50% by noon. The results of the elections are still unknown, the votes are being counted.
