A seventh-grade student of a Belgrade school who fired at an educational institution will be able to avoid criminal liability due to his age. On Wednesday, May 3, write local media.
According to Vecherne Novosti, the perpetrator of the deaths of nine people is not yet 14 years old. This means that, in accordance with Serbian law, he is not subject to criminal liability.
After the tragedy at a school in Belgrade, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic suggested that the government consider lowering the minimum age threshold for criminal responsibility from 14 to 12 years. He also advocated mandatory drug testing for middle and high school students every six months.
Vučić said that the teenage boy who started the shooting at the school will be placed in a psychiatric hospital.
A source previously said that a seventh grader could have fired at a school because of an unsatisfactory grade in history. According to other students, the guy was a good student, he was considered a “nerd”, so after a bad grade, he seemed to have “lost his mind.” As a result of the shooting opened by him, nine people were killed, according to various estimates, from seven to 15 people were injured.
The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the teenager thought out the crime in advance, made a list of potential victims and thought out how he would enter the school to carry out his plan. However, the police arrested the shooter.
