Tomsk City Duma deputy Ksenia Fadeeva was placed in a pre-trial detention center for two months

The Tomsk Regional Court changed the preventive measure for the former coordinator of the regional headquarters of Alexei Navalny (the network of headquarters was recognized as an extremist organization, liquidated and banned) Ksenia Fadeeva to detention for two months, the defendant’s lawyer Kirill Terekhin told Kommersant. She was previously placed under house arrest.
Ksenia Fadeeva is accused of organizing an extremist community (Part 3 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, punishment – from 7 to 12 years in prison) and participation in the activities of a non-profit organization that encroaches on the personality and rights of citizens (Part 3 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, maximum sanction – four years imprisonment). The first court hearing in the case took place on August 14, 2023. Ms. Fadeeva has not yet expressed her attitude to the charges brought against her.
According to investigators, in January and April 2021, the deputy called on residents of Tomsk for unsanctioned protests in support of Alexei Navalny. As a result, more than 130 people, including minors, were detained for committing various offenses.
Ksenia Fadeeva was elected to the City Duma in September 2020 with the support of the Smart Voting project, which was developed to support opposition deputies. She was second in the elections for the speaker of the City Duma, losing five votes to United Russia member Chingis Akatayev.
