Tokayev wins presidential elections in Kazakhstan

The current president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, won the early elections of the head of the republic, gaining 81.31% of the vote, Nurlan Abdirov, chairman of the country’s Central Election Commission, announced at a meeting, which was broadcast was conducted on the commission’s website.
6,456,392 people voted for Tokayev. All other candidates received within 2-3.4% of the vote.
“Thus, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was elected President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the early elections on November 20,” said the head of the CEC.
The turnout, he added, amounted to just over 8.3 million people, which is 69.44% of the total number of voters. Tokayev’s inauguration is scheduled for November 26.
Yesterday, November 21, after summing up the preliminary results, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Tokayev on his victory.
Tokayev announced early presidential elections on September 1. Then he proposed to increase the term of office of the head of state from six years (now) to seven, eliminating the possibility of re-election. According to him, these elections will launch the electoral cycle, which will lead to a radical reset of the entire political system.
