About it informs press service of the President of Kazakhstan.
We are talking about the law “On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on professional qualifications, state awards, social security and education.” According to the document, Nazarbayev is deprived of the status of the head of councils at Nazarbayev University, Nazarbayev Foundation and Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools.

In the new wording of the law, the chairman of the supreme board of trustees of organizations is the president of the republic or the person he appoints. The decision on grants for the education of gifted children will now also be made by the current president of Kazakhstan, and not Nazarbayev.
On June 5, 2022, a referendum was held in Kazakhstan to amend the Constitution. Then it was proposed to delete the article on the status, privileges and powers of the first president. The norm on the immutability of Nazarbayev’s status as the leader of the nation was also abolished.

From that moment on, Nazarbayev no longer has the right to address the people and state bodies, participate in government meetings and speak before parliament with initiatives on state building, foreign and domestic policy, and the country’s security. At the same time, he retained some immunity privileges on the basis of two laws – on treason and immunity of ex-presidents.
