Togliatti Lada returns to the KHL next season

Board of Directors of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) approved the composition of the participants of the 2023/24 season. 23 clubs will take part in it. Among them is the hockey club Lada from Togliatti, which will play in the KHL for the first time since the 2017/18 season.
KHL President Alexei Morozov told TASS that Lada will play in the Eastern Conference. The general director of the Togliatti hockey club, Alexander Chebotarev, said that the Lada budget for the next season will be 1.4 billion rubles.
Mr. Chebotarev called the issue of approving the head coach of the club premature. According to him, the decision on who will lead the team will be made in ten days. “We want to see our pupil as the head coach. We want a coach for whom six thousand fans in the arena would mean something, ”he added.
Hockey club “Lada” was founded in 1976. Until 1990, the club was called “Torpedo”. He is a two-time champion of Russia and the owner of the European Cup. After the 2014/15 season, the Togliatti club was expelled from the KHL based on a rating that takes into account sports and economic performance. In six seasons of the KHL, the club managed to reach the playoffs only once – in the 2008/09 season.
