In Moscow, the United Nations Information Center hosted a conference dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer in Russia and abroad. The meeting participants talked about how important it is to comply with the basic principles of such a UN document as the Sustainable Development Goals. And, in particular, the two main principles of this document: “Health and well-being” and “Quality education”.
According to Melita Vujnovic, WHO Special Representative in Russia, Moscow’s experience in supporting children with cancer is unique. The innovative project for the creation of hospital schools “UchimKnow”, which appeared in Russia back in 2014, makes it possible to provide a full-fledged secondary education to children who have been in hospitals for a long time in medical institutions or undergoing treatment at home.
Within the framework of the conference, students from four Moscow schools No. 1517, 1560, 1290 and School in Nekrasovka, participants of the New Pedagogical Class project in the capital’s school, presented their reports on ways to combat childhood cancer and its consequences. After the presentation, Sergey Sharikov, the head of the TeachKnow project, suggested that the children arrange their work as articles and promised to publish them in the scientific journal Pediatrics.
– The peculiarity of the interaction of the project office “UchimKnow” with educational organizations is that the capital’s high school students, together with the students of the hospital school, will be able to discover not only the possibilities of future professions, but also through personal experience, scientific knowledge to find the best cases for solving problems with which they will face each other in the future,” Sergei Sharikov clarified.
