To the 105th anniversary of the birth of Andrey Goncharov

This January marked the 105th anniversary of the birth of the legendary Andrey Alexandrovich Goncharov, the long-term chief director of the Theater. Vl. Mayakovsky.

A great contribution to the Russian theatrical art of the 20th century was made by the great director, whose name is associated with the heyday of the theater, as well as the formation of the directing department of GITIS and the education of a whole galaxy of actors and directors who made up the color of the Russian theater. Andrey Goncharov was a master of incredible scale.

For many years, heading the department of directing at GITIS, he attracted all the best practical forces there, because he was convinced that only those who themselves mean a lot in it can teach a profession. For 40 years of teaching at GITIS, he trained hundreds of directors and actors, brought up a record number of students who later became the pinnacles of not only the Russian but also the world stage: P. Fomenko, E. Nyakroshyus, S. Golomazov, E. Kamenkovich and many other. Among the graduates-artists Igor Kostolevsky (graduation of 1973) Sergey Rubeko (1977), Tatyana Orlova (1977), Lyubov Rudenko (1981), Anatoly Lobotsky (1985), Olga Prokofieva (1985), Anna Ardova (1994) and many others.

Andrei Goncharov headed the Theater. Vl. Mayakovsky from 1967 to 2001, and these 34 years can be called a whole era not only in the fate of Mayakovka, but in the history of Russian theater in the second half of the 20th century. “Tram “Desire” by T. Williams, “Man from La Mancha” by D. Wasserman, “Running” by M. Bulgakov, “Sunset” by I. Babel, “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District” by N. Leskov, “Bankrupt” and “Victim of the Century” A. N. Ostrovsky – without these performances it is impossible to imagine the theatrical life of Moscow for several decades.

On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the birth of Andrei Goncharov and as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary season, the Play Theater Laboratory continued its work – they decided to combine the most experimental form of composing modern theater with the most classic material, the comedies of Shakespeare and Molière.

Egor Peregudov, artistic director of the theatre: “Usually they give seven to ten days to create sketches, and the participants take energy from speed. But the performance assembled in this way, it seems to me, quickly “dries up”. It’s great when in rehearsals the artists find many different options for solving the role, which then grow into them without the participation of the director. This kind of work is still alive three years later, artists have something to think about there. Therefore, in the laboratory it is important not to compose a whole story, but to work out a move. Then the performance can be staged easily and quickly.”

Sketches of performances by young directors, graduates of theater universities – Anton Morozov, Nadia Kubaylat, Sasha Zolotovitsky, Vladimir Danai – were shown on the Small Stage. Worthy works can take a place in the repertoire of an illustrious theatre.
