Sharp warming will quickly give way to severe cooling
On the morning of January 11, Thursday, the temperature in the capital rose to minus one degree, but already at noon the temperature will begin to get colder. Over the past 24 hours, 10% of the monthly precipitation fell in the Russian capital. Snowfall will continue throughout the day. This was reported by Evgeniy Tishkovets, a specialist at the Phobos weather center.
According to the forecaster, heavy snowfalls covered most of the Russian Plain and will reach the Caucasus on Friday.
“It’s cloudy in Moscow, there is intense heavy snowfall with visibility deteriorating to 2.8 kilometers. Airports show a decrease in visibility of up to one and a half kilometers,” reports Tishkovets.
There are snow drifts on the roads. Utility workers work tirelessly, but it is better to use the metro, the expert recommends.
In the afternoon, a cold atmospheric front will begin to break through into the Moscow region, which will open an unhindered path for air masses from the Barents Sea.
As a result of the next Arctic invasion, the daily temperature trend will reverse, and in the afternoon in Moscow it is expected to reach minus eleven degrees. “Increasing cold will be accompanied by a change in the westerly wind to the north with gusts up to storm-force 13-18 meters per second, so it will feel like it’s 9-10 degrees colder outside than it actually is,” says Tishkovets.
On the night of Thursday, January 11, to Friday the 12th, the intensity of snowfall in Moscow will decrease, and the cold will intensify to minus 15-20. On Friday afternoon minus 16 – minus 11 is expected.
On Saturday, January 13, in Moscow and the region in the morning it will be minus 22, in the afternoon – minus 12 – minus 17, this is abnormally cold. “The most severe frosts await Muscovites on the night of Old New Year: minus 20 – minus 25.”
The cold will subside next week. Temperatures will return to normal levels. There will be heavy snowfalls.
