The Times has removed from its website a previously posted interview with Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin. It was published only in the electronic version of the publication, and then deleted without any explanation.
At the Russian diplomatic mission in London emphasizedthat such actions are not only hostile, but “openly violate the principles of impartiality and freedom of speech.”
The Russian ambassador sent a letter on this occasion to the editor-in-chief of the publication Tony Gallagher. In it, Kelin noted that the posted interview with him aroused sincere interest among readers, gaining about 400 comments in a couple of days.
The article, according to Kelin, was removed from the site after the newspaper was severely criticized “by an influential local anti-Russian clique.” The British authorities also had a hand in the decision, according to the Russian diplomat.
The Russian Ambassador to the UK noted that The Times is afraid to give a different view of the events in Ukraine. He expressed bewilderment at what had happened to Britain’s “open-minded journalism without fear or preference”.
The Russian embassy will publish the full version of the interview on its website.
