Three residents of Perm were detained after fake fees for a special operation on behalf of Simonyan
Police officers detained three residents of Perm on suspicion of embezzling money from those who wanted to help participants in the special operation, the defendants opened fees using fake “channels” of Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya and RT media groups. Irina Volk, the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, informed the journalists about this.
As noted, several “channels” were created in one of the messengers, in which publications were made on behalf of Simonyan. According to law enforcement officers, the number of their subscribers amounted to more than 100 thousand.
According to preliminary information, the attackers published posts in the “channels” about “the need to purchase equipment for the needs of military personnel who perform tasks in the NVO zone.” Users who responded to help the military were offered to transfer funds to bank cards of “volunteers”. At the same time, in fact, the collected money was stolen.
As a result of Simonyan’s appeal to the police, the identities of the participants in the criminal business were identified. Volk drew attention to the fact that the turnover on the accounts of malefactors over the past month and a half amounted to more than 7 million rubles. Law enforcement officers opened a criminal case on fraud (Article 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia).
