Three out of four authors of the draft law on the deprivation of Russian citizenship by birth withdrew their signatures

Senators Olga Bas (from the Lugansk People’s Republic), Yekaterina Altabayeva and Sergei Kolbin (both from Sevastopol) withdrew their signatures from the bill, which provided for the deprivation of citizenship by birth. This follows from State Duma bases. The reasons for their decision are unknown. The fourth author of the initiative, Senator Sergei Tsekov (from Crimea), said “RIA News”that does not intend to revoke the signature.
A group of senators contributed draft law to the State Duma on July 21. They proposed to provide for the possibility of terminating the citizenship of the Russian Federation by birth or recognition for committing crimes (preparation for a crime or attempted crime) and actions that pose a threat to national security. Desertion, discrediting the armed forces and incitement to extremism were named as such crimes.
Andrey Klishas, head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, criticized the initiative. He recalled that the commission of actions leading to the termination of citizenship is considered as a violation of the oath given by naturalized Russians. Mr. Klishas advised his colleagues to “read the Constitution”.
