The microblogging service Threads (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned) is now available in the countries of the European Union. Previously, the delay in the release of the application in the EU was explained by difficulties in complying with EU rules, meaning the law on digital markets coming into force in 2024.
EU residents will be able to view content on the platform without registering, but will need to register to post or interact with content. Threads was launched in July 2023 in more than 100 countries, but in the European Union it was not possible to access it even through a VPN. Now the service has the opportunity to enter a new market with more than 448 million residents.
Previously on Threads appeared “tags” similar to hashtags, also a platform ahead social network X by downloads in the AppStore and Google Play and develops a new feature due to which social network posts will no longer be shown to Facebook and Instagram users.
