GenDigital Company sent out about 6.5 thousand notifications to users about a possible leak of their keys from the Norton LifeLock password manager. The company claims that this was not due to security issues in the password manager itself, but through third-party platforms. Users are advised to enable two-factor authentication.
According to the company, passwords began to fall into the hands of attackers from December 1, but Gen Digital was only able to notice this on December 12, when a significant number of failed login attempts from users were detected. When accessing the user’s account, the attackers could see the first and last name, phone number, e-mail. The company cannot rule out that the criminals did not gain access to customer passwords. In total, more than 925,000 active and inactive user accounts were subject to attacks.
