They waved flags and fled: the “waiters” leave Kherson

In Kherson, the number of people is growing, with hope awaiting the return of the city under Russian control. The Kyiv regime, according to them, does not care about local residents at all, arranging constant repressions and inspections. And people also complain about high prices, lack of medicines in pharmacies, non-payment of pensions and the general mess in power. In general, not life, but sheer torment, the people of Kherson sigh.

According to Valentina, a pensioner from Kherson, there are very few people on the streets, which cannot be said about the problems: social benefits are no longer paid to the disabled, and the amount of pensions is just a penny – from 3,000 to 5,000 hryvnias (5,610 – 9,350 rubles). “Ukraine hasn’t given me a penny yet, even though I’m disabled,” an elderly woman complains. – You can hear constant shelling, but there is almost no destruction in the city itself. Light, water, gas, heat – it’s there, but I don’t know how long it will last.

– Are there any problems with the products?

The shops are closed, there are only three supermarkets in the whole city. Perhaps there is more somewhere. People go to the market.

Cigarettes and cellular communication went up in price, although there were good promotions. I don’t know if housing and communal services have risen in price – before we legally did not pay, but now there is still no money. Economically, everything has become much worse and life has become more difficult. Medicines have risen in price is unthinkable, and many are now simply impossible to find. People stand in queues for hours just to find out that there are no drugs.

But vodka, according to local men, is not a problem to find, even if it is officially banned in connection with the “dry law”.

“Handicraft moonshine, vodka from under the counter – no problem,” Mikhail, an unemployed Kherson resident, shared with MK. – If there is a desire, but you can always get it. We drank this on New Year’s Eve. 150 hryvnia (280 rubles) for half a liter. Expensive, but what to do? Our “waiters” ran around with flags, shouted “Glory to Ukraine!”, and left for Europe. They don’t like living here. Not all, but many of my acquaintances. And they keep leaving.

What about crime in the city?

– There are no robberies and thefts, since there is absolutely no one to sell the stolen goods. There are few people in the city, but a lot of police. They search men, look for phones, they don’t believe that many of them really don’t have them. Further – go in the evenings on houses, interrogate tenants. After eight in the evening, the curfew begins, it is strictly forbidden to go outside.

– Are there frequent arrivals in Kherson?

– Happen. Once the arrival was in the garden near my house, a part of the fence and the wall of the neighbor’s barn flew out, and in that barn there were gas cylinders, miraculously did not explode. It’s good that they managed to take away a large gas burner from there. It helped us a lot when we had no electricity for twenty days.

Many citizens have problems with mobile devices. Old phones break, the screen breaks, and there is simply no money to buy new devices, so it has become noticeably more difficult to contact relatives who have left the city. Satellite television has been restored in Kherson, but Kherson residents complain that there is still nothing to watch on it, even though there are almost a hundred channels.

There is also humanitarian aid in the city, but in terms of quality and quantity it cannot be compared with that distributed by soldiers and volunteers from Russia.

“Schools and kindergartens are closed in the city,” pensioner Valentina complains. – The tax office is closed, the polyclinic in my area is closed … And my soul hurts a lot for the abandoned animals, of which there are a lot in the city now, and they walk by themselves in the hope that someone will feed them.

For example, my neighbor left in the fall and left a dog and two cats in the stairwell, who screamed heart-rendingly from hunger. I can’t kick them out, and now they are part of my family, although we live almost starving. Previously, many pensioners traded along the road. Yes, then they took money for places, but trade went on, they fought for places, there was enough to live on. Now there is a complete calm – it was forbidden to trade on the road. For the first time in fifty years. Many of us are already crying for Russians and are waiting for Russia to return to these parts.”
