Scientists have developed a unique device for monitoring surface and underwater conditions
A patent for a specialized device, which is planned to be entrusted with the protection of maritime state borders, was recently received by the Moscow Border Institute of the FSB of the Russian Federation. The design invented by the institute’s specialists will be able to monitor both surface and underwater conditions.
As it became known to MK, the device consists of a balloon with blades connected by a cable to a container for a radar station (RLS), which is attached by the same cable to the body of the hydroacoustic detection device. This is a kind of buoy in the form of an inverted bucket, stuffed with equipment. On the surface of the radar housing are video cameras and a thermal imager. This whole structure is connected by a pipe with a battery standing at the bottom. It also functions as a ballast, and the tube also serves as a support for the hydrophones of the sonar detection device. An electrical cable that runs through this entire system, including through hollow cables, connects it to a common network. On the one hand, these are video cameras and a thermal imager, a radar, a data reception and transmission system, a computer complex, on the other hand, electricity generation devices, radar and hydroacoustic system power generators, as well as a battery.
It all works like this: under the influence of air currents, a balloon with blades begins to spin. The energy is transferred to the radar generator. The generated electricity ensures the operation of the radar, video camera and thermal imager, leading all-round surveillance of the surface situation. When they detect any objects, the motion information enters the computer complex. He draws conclusions about the characteristics and parameters of the “intruder” and transmits this data through the system for receiving and transmitting data to the control point. The underwater part of the system works in a similar way: only here the hydroacoustic detection system collects primary information.
Such a system can autonomously conduct continuous surveillance under water from the air, detecting targets in a timely manner and determining their exact coordinates.
