They decided to strengthen control over Odessa because of the Russian language

Commissioner for the Protection of the Ukrainian Language Taras Kremin intends to increase control over Odessa in connection with the placement of outdoor advertising and information signs in Russian in the city. The Ombudsman wrote about this on Facebook (a social network banned in the Russian Federation; owned by the Meta organization, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
According to him, in Odessa it is necessary to establish special control “over compliance with language legislation”; the situation can only be changed by close interaction between local authorities and entities responsible for advertising and trade.
Kremin said that he often observes the fact that signs and plates are placed in a non-state language in the city. In this regard, he called on the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov to approve a unified language program, which would, among other things, ensure compliance with legislative norms in the city. “Outdoor advertising or signboards located in violation must be dismantled,” he concluded.
