The mayor of Chita proposed naming new streets in honor of sister cities in China and Mongolia
The head of Chita, Evgeny Yarilov, instructed the city administration to explore the possibility of naming streets in honor of the sister cities of the capital of Transbaikalia. According to message press service of the mayor’s office, it was proposed to name the streets in the new microdistricts as follows: Ulan-Udenskaya, Pekingskaya, Khailarskaya, Manchzhurskaya, Choibalsan.
According to the mayor, Russia is connected with the same Choibalsan by a common history – this refers to the defeat of Japanese troops on the Khalkhin Gol River in 1939 by Soviet-Mongolian soldiers. Chita “is connected with Hailar and Manchuria by the victorious Manchurian offensive operation in 1945.”
The mayor’s office also emphasized that in Ulan-Ude there is a Chitinskaya street, and in Choibalsan there is a street named after Chita.
