A shortage of the antidepressant Prozac has been discovered in Russian pharmacies. RBC reports this with reference to pharmacists and a source in a large pharmacy chain. According to the publication, as of September 16 in Moscow, the drug was available only in four of the nearly 2.4 thousand pharmacies associated with the Megapteka online aggregator. A similar situation is observed in St. Petersburg, where tablets can be found in only two pharmacies out of 1.3 thousand. The drug is not available in the cities of Novosibirsk and Kazan.
Pharmacy officials say Prozac is no longer in stock and the last shipment was made in June. Confirmation of this information was received from the press service of the Ministry of Health.
Pharmacists do not have information about the next delivery. A representative of a major pharmacy chain said pharmacies are currently selling leftovers. Suppliers also confirm that they do not stock this drug.
In March, it was announced that the American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Prozac, plans to leave the Russian market and transfer its business to a partner, the Swiss-registered pharmaceutical company Swixx Biopharma. A year earlier, Eli Lilly had already suspended investments and supplies of a number of other drugs to Russia.
