There are very few people in Russia who oppose the SVO – Kommersant

Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov in an interview with the newspaper “Arguments and Facts” answered a journalist’s question about the “gap in society” between those who support the military operation in Ukraine and those who are strongly opposed. According to Mr. Peskov, there is no such “gap” in Russian society. The press secretary recalled the results of the presidential elections and said that there are “very few people in Russia” who oppose military operations in Ukraine.

“It’s probably more correct to say that almost the entire society agrees with Putin’s line. There are those who are against it too. But this is such, you know, a fragment of society, there are very few of them. And there is no need to exaggerate this number,” said Dmitry Peskov.

He also called the 2024 presidential election “unprecedented.” “Still, 87% of votes in favor after 24 years in power is a global phenomenon, with such a high turnout. And in terms of cleanliness, these elections are also absolutely unprecedented; observers did not have any serious complaints about them,” he noted.

Elections in Russia took place on March 15, 16 and 17. On March 18, the Central Election Commission reported that 100% of the protocols had been processed. According to the results of the vote count, the current head of state Vladimir Putin received 87.28% of the votes. Nikolai Kharitonov from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation received 4.31% of the votes, Vladislav Davankov from New People – 3.85%, Leonid Slutsky from the Liberal Democratic Party – 3.2%. Turnout in all regions was 77.44%.
