“There are no analogues to it in our country”: the Belov Cup opened in Tomsk

The All-Russian basketball competition Sergei Belov Cup takes place from October 30 at the Jupiter sports complex. As Tomsk Mayor Dmitry Makhinya said at the opening of the competition, there are no analogues to the Tomsk tournament in Russia. “Teams from 15 regions of Russia, as well as from the Republic of Kazakhstan, are taking part in the current competition. This indicates the prestige of the tournament,” the mayor emphasized.
Olympic champion, basketball player Sergei Belov was born in the village of Nashchekovo, Tomsk region. I joined the basketball section in the 5th grade.
Belov is an Olympic champion in 1972, a two-time world champion, and a four-time European champion. He became an Olympic bronze medalist three times.
At the 1980 Olympics, it was Sergei Belov who lit the Olympic flame in Moscow.
Since 1971, the All-Russian youth basketball tournament for the Sergei Belov Cup has been held annually in Tomsk.
In 2023, athletes from Novosibirsk, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Bratsk, Kemerovo, Achinsk, Moscow, Barnaul, Blagoveshchensk, Khabarovsk and Chita came to Tomsk.
The games will take place from October 30 to November 4 at three venues:
