Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova told a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and the government that the share of youth unemployment fell to 5.1% in 2023 compared to 2019, when the figure was 6.8%.
In accordance with the decree “On the main directions of youth policy in the Russian Federation,” youth in the Russian Federation include citizens aged 14 to 35 years.
During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister also announced a decrease over five years in the proportion of young people aged 15 to 24 who do not study or work, from 10.6% to 8.7%. According to her, 37 million people aged 14 to 35 live in Russia. Two thirds of them live in cities. Young people form 5.3 million families, Ms. Golikova said.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, 71% of Russian youth give priority to creating a happy family and raising children. She claims that the share of young people who believe in the possibility of self-realization in Russia has increased over five years by 2023 from 64% to 81%. Ms. Golikova also stated that the share of young people who are proud of the Russian Federation during the reporting period increased from 58% to 92%.
Previously, the Deputy Prime Minister reported that the share of unemployed in the age category from 15 to 29 years at the end of 2022 was 8.5%. In January 2024, the government updated the “Youth Employment Promotion Program until 2030.” The project assumes that the unemployment rate among young people aged 15 to 29 years will decrease from 10.7% in 2020 to 5% in 2030, in the category 15–24 years old – from 17.3% to 8%.
