The XXII Winter Sports Games opened in the Kostroma regional center of Vokhma

On March 1, the XXII Winter Sports Games for the prizes of the Governor of the Kostroma Region were launched in the regional center of Vokhma. The symbolic Olympic flame in the central square of the village was lit by Kostroma residents, champions of past Olympics: Alevtina Olyunina and Alexander Golubev.
This year, more than 500 athletes will take part in the Winter Games, who will compete in cross-country skiing, biathlon, polyathlon and speed skating. Separate competitions are provided for family teams, and heads of municipalities will compete in skeet shooting.
“Every year more and more residents of the Kostroma region are involved in physical education and sports. …During the Address, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin assured that the national project “Demography” will be continued in full, which, among other things, implies an increase in the number of sports facilities. This means that people will have more opportunities to engage in physical education and sports,” said Sergei Sitnikov, Governor of the Kostroma Region, at the opening ceremony of the games.
The results of the competition will be known on Sunday.
