In the southwest of the Canadian island of Newfoundland, off Cape Ray, part of the skeleton of an ancient sailing ship was discovered, which washed ashore. According to CBC, local residents discovered this find. According to Neil Burgess, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Shipwreck Preservation Society, the ship was built in the 19th century.
He noted that the size of the part of the skeleton brought to the island was 24 meters, which indicates that it was a large vessel, larger in size than an average schooner.
The expert believes the sailboat could have been lifted from the seabed by Storm Fiona, which passed through the area in September 2022 and altered Newfoundland’s coastline.
He also notedthat the seabed off the island is littered with thousands of sunken ships.
