AP: By January 1, 2024, the world’s population will increase to 8 billion people
The Associated Press, citing the US Census Bureau, reports that in 2023 the world’s population grew by 75 million people, and by January 1, 2024 it will reach eight billion people.
The AP quotes Brookings Institution demographer William Frey as saying that if current rates continue until the end of the decade, the 2020s could become the slowest growth decade in US history. He emphasized that the growth rate will be less than 4% for the period from 2020 to 2030.
It is noted that these figures are lower than the lowest levels of population growth that occurred in the period after the Great Depression in the 1930s. At that time, the population growth rate in the country was 7.3%. However, demographers predict a slow increase in indicators after the final recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
