In the village of Borogontsy, Ust-Aldan region, in the new sports complex named after N.N. Tarsky, the third official championship this year began.

Following the championships in freestyle wrestling and mini-football, today the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) volleyball championship is being held among women’s teams of the First League.

Deputy Chairman of the Government of Yakutia Sergei Mestnikov in his speech at the opening ceremony noted that volleyball is a wonderful sport.

It is also noted as one of the mass sports that has been developing in Yakutia over recent years. It covers almost all ages and uluses of the region.

In the first league, the six strongest teams of Yakutia will compete for medals. Athletes from the Megino-Kangalassky district, the Namsky district, the Churapchinsky district, the Ust-Aldansky district, the Mirny district and the capital of the republic, the city of Yakutsk, are also taking part. The winner and team runners-up will be determined by a round-robin system.
