Serena Williams (40) and her older sister Venus (42) have accepted a doubles wildcard for the US Open (August 29-September 11), tournament organizers announced on Saturday. They will also play on the single board.
The Williams sisters are two-time doubles champions in the major season finale, having triumphed together in 1999 and 2009. Together they have won 14 Women’s Grand Slam doubles titles.
The US Open, which begins on Monday, could be the last tournament of Serena’s glittering career as she announced her impending retirement last month but never confirmed her final tournament.
