Writer and publicist, widow of writer Andrei Sinyavsky, Maria Rozanova died at the age of 93. This was reported by writer Dmitry Bykov (recognized as a foreign agent).

Maria Rozanova was born in Vitebsk, graduated from the art history department of Moscow State University. She taught at VGIK, Abramtsevo Art School, and the Mossovet Theater studio. In 1965, her husband Andrei Sinyavsky was accused of anti-Soviet propaganda and sent to serve his sentence in Mordovia.

In 1973, two years after Sinyavsky’s early release, Maria Rozanova and her husband left for Paris. She was the publisher and later editor-in-chief of the magazine Syntax, which was published in Paris from 1978 to 2001. Writers Efim Etkind, Yulia Vishnevskaya, Pavel Litvinov, Igor Golomshtok worked with the magazine. Rozanova was also the author and host of the “We Are Abroad” program on Radio Liberty (recognized as a foreign agent).
